DON’T WRITE AN ESSAY

With so much content flooding the internet daily, users get bored and quickly! Consumers will scan through your website and won’t give it the attention that you desire. Cut any essay like content into quick, easy to congest bullet points. Illustrative icons get the message across quicker than any copy could. The design of the lettering you choose should also be large and easy to read.

DON’T LET SPACE CRAMP YOUR STYLE

Never underestimate the power of white space. Yes, you want your website to be all singing and dancing – but a clean, uncluttered landing page will give a stronger impact. 2016 leaves behind the myth of having to fit your content onto one page and brings with it the much more popular scrolling feeds. An ‘up’ icon and moving menu will help your viewer get back to the top of the page with one simple click.

DON’T LET YOUR USERS GET LOST

It’s simple – make sure it works and key information is a click or two away. Once it was popular to pack your website with content, but make sure it isn’t overkill. If your visitors have to dig around for information they’ll quickly lose interest and find another site. The aim should be to make the route to conversion as simple as possible through directional buttons, concise menus and clearly labelled pages.

DON’T HAVE A NON MOBILE RESPONSIVE SITE

It may sound like an obvious point to make, but a lot of website are still not mobile responsive. Not sure what that means? Visit your website on a mobile phone, or desktop – do you have to zoom in to read any information? If so, your website is underperforming. Sites need to adapt to their display screen, making it easy for viewers to navigate through and find the information that they need!

DON’T BE AFRAID TO TAKE RISKS

Websites tend to stick to a mould and, in most circumstances, that makes for a good user experience. But, that doesn’t mean you can’t add a pinch of personality – big banners and fun animations can add a whole new dimension. Never underestimate the power of a good quality image taken by a professional – it can often set you apart from the crowds of stock images hanging around.
