Civic Centre public consultation

About This Project

Brief:

The Civic Centre is an iconic mid-century building in the heart of Plymouth’s city centre. National regeneration firm, Urban Splash, approached us to provide strategic communications support for the public consultation on the future of this Grade II listed structure.

Approach:

Sensitive handling was needed with the audiences and issues involved in this project, and we quickly got up to speed with a vision that had been years in the pipeline, to advise on the most fitting approach. We engaged with a diverse set of audiences, from Councillors and community groups to local businesses and the public – to help drive attendance at a public consultation event.

Our role included securing media adverts, drafting mailshots, event planning, identifying audiences, driving awareness of the public consultation, media relations and co-ordinating interviews. Following analysis of the feedback gained during the consultation event, we pulled together a comprehensive Statement of Community Involvement document to support the planning application.

Results:

The event was well attended by all target audiences and favourably covered by print, broadcast and national trade media, who understood and reflected the vision positively. The plans garnered a 100% support score in the public feedback, which helped support a strong Statement of Community Involvement. A client, happy with what was accomplished, is moving forward with this exciting development – a hugely exciting new chapter for Plymouth that we are proud to have been involved in.
